Moon Knight: Oscar Isaac Going Crazy in Marvel’s New Series

The trailer, release date, and first poster for Moon Knight are now available. Marvel Studios revealed on Tuesday, alongside the release of the Moon Knight poster, that the new Marvel Cinematic Universe series starring Oscar Isaac would launch on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on March 30. The Moon Knight trailer — which was also released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, in anticipation of the show’s release in India — teases the title character’s past and emergence, as a London gift shop employee (Isaac) discovers that he is living multiple lives before becoming entangled in a deadly mystery involving Egyptian gods.

“I can’t tell the difference between my real life and my dreams,” Steven Grant (Isaac) states in the first Moon Knight trailer, after calling the Staying Awake helpline. Steven is startled as he wakes up one morning and tries to flee his nightmare, only to fall flat on his face due to a leash he placed on his foot. The new Marvel series is set in London, and Steven works at the National Gallery, according to the Moon Knight trailer (where an Ancient Egypt exhibition is currently on). Steven fears he’s going insane one night at the museum until he realizes the Moon Knight he’s imagining is actually an elderly woman.

Steven then discovers a (ringing) phone and keys concealed somewhere on a different night, ostensibly at the museum. “Oh my god, you’re alive,” a voice identified as Layla in the Moon Knight trailer subtitles says when he picks up the phone. “What’s the matter with you, Marc?” Steven is perplexed as to why he is referred to as Marc. This links in with Marc Spector’s origins in Marvel Comics, where he suffers from dissociative identity disorder and each of his identities has its own life. While Steven works in the gift store at the National Gallery, Marc has a completely other existence, which is not revealed in the Moon Knight teaser.

“It has to be quite difficult.” You’re hearing voices in your head. When Steven/Marc encounters Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke), a cult leader to whom people bow in the street, he says to him, “There’s chaos in you.” Other scenes show Steven/Marc going insane, ending up in a van with a pistol he doesn’t understand, being chased by other vehicles, and seemingly ending up in Egypt at the Pyramids. At the end of the Moon Knight teaser, Arthur’s disembodied voice exclaims, “Embrace the chaos,” as we watch Steven/Marc being mummified in a mystical manner. That hooded and cloaked-in-grey figure from previously — I assume it’s Marc’s costume — reappears in the conclusion, savagely beating up someone.

Moon Knight will release on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on March 30. Moon Knight will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and English in India. Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead will helm a total of six 40–50 minute episodes for Moon Knight. Moon Knight is created and written by Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy).
